GSISOA Presents Memorandum Before the Hon'ble 8th Central Pay Commission 10 July 2026 2:00 PM | Kolkata
The Geological Survey of India Scientific Officers' Association (GSISOA) presented its Memorandum before the Hon'ble 8th Central Pay Commission, highlighting the major service-related issues affecting the Central Geological Service.

GSISOA drew attention to the unprecedented career stagnation across the Geology Stream, particularly following the 2024 Cadre Review, which resulted in a substantial reduction of promotional posts. The Association submitted that promotion from Senior Time Scale (STS) to Junior Administrative Grade (JAG) now takes, on average, 20–21 years, creating a cascading bottleneck that has severely affected career progression from Assistant Geologist to JTS, JTS to STS, and STS to JAG, with significant financial and professional consequences for scientific officers.

The Association urged the Hon'ble Commission to recommend appropriate corrective measures to address the unprecedented career stagnation in the Central Geological Service, including vacancy-independent, time-bound financial upgradation up to Pay Level-14, improvement in the entry Pay Level of Assistant Geologists, and service conditions to ensure equitable career progression and maintain the morale of scientific officers.

During the interaction, the Hon'ble Chairman observed that the objective of a Cadre Review is to mitigate career stagnation and sought clarification regarding the reduction of promotional posts and its impact on career progression. GSISOA informed the Commission that the Association had neither been consulted nor provided with the draft Cadre Review proposal and had submitted detailed representations highlighting the discrepancies and adverse consequences of the reduction of promotional posts.

GSISOA expresses its sincere gratitude to the Hon'ble Chairman and Hon'ble Members of the 8th Central Pay Commission for providing the Association an opportunity to present the concerns of the scientific officers of the Geological Survey of India.
